Pain Management Therapy

For pain that has outstayed the injury that caused it.

Overview

Drug-free treatment for pain that hasn't settled on its own

Pain lasting longer than three months behaves differently to fresh injury pain. The tissue has often healed while the nervous system stays sensitised — which is why rest and painkillers stop helping, and why being told ‘the scan looks fine’ is so frustrating.

This program combines hands-on treatment, graded activity and clear education about what’s actually happening. The aim is to widen what you can do without a flare-up, week by week, until pain stops setting your schedule.

What this treatment does for you

Less reliance on medication

A non-invasive, drug-free approach that works alongside whatever your doctor has prescribed.

Flare-ups you can manage

A written plan for bad days, so a setback stops being a crisis.

Activity back in your week

Graded exposure that rebuilds tolerance for sitting, walking, lifting and sleeping.

An explanation that makes sense

Understanding why pain persists is part of the treatment, not a consolation prize.

Your pain management therapy program, step by step

1

Full history and examination

Including how pain affects sleep, work and mood — because all three feed back into it.

2

Settle and educate

Hands-on treatment for symptom relief, plus a plain explanation of what’s driving the pain.

3

Graded activity

Small, sustainable increases in what you do, planned to stay under your flare-up threshold.

4

Self-management

You finish with the tools to manage independently, and a review appointment if you need it.

Questions about this treatment

No. We don’t prescribe or adjust medication — that’s your doctor’s call. Many patients do reduce what they need over time, and we’ll write to your GP with progress.

Yes. Scans show structure, not pain. Persistent pain is a nervous-system response that’s real regardless of what imaging shows, and it responds to treatment.

Longer than an acute injury — typically 8–12 sessions spread over a few months, with the gaps widening as you take over the program yourself.
